R097 – Interactive digital media – Portfolio Task 1

The task will be given to you on paper. Make sure you read it carefully.

The whole portfolio should take you about 15 hours to complete. This is for all three tasks – Task 1 should take 5 to 6 hours. The total mark for the portfolio is out of 70.

In Task 1 you will have to:

Make sure you include all three parts of Task 1 in your work. You can find a copy of the markgrid further down this page.

There are templates you can use to help come up with a test plan and to identify the assets you will use.

You'll come back to the test plan in Task 3.

Helpful documents

There is some theory that's useful:

Audience segmentation notes – theory from R093 exam unit. It's useful to think about different aspects of a target audience for row 1 of the markgrid.

Row 2 of the markgrid is all about pre-production documents. You need to use plenty of them and make sure that they're high quality documents laid out in the expected ways.

You'll probably want to use pre-production documents to generate ideas and help plan your work (mind maps, mood boards and so on...). The ideas you put in these can contibute towards the first row of the markgrid with your written element, as well being counted for the second row.

Then you'll need to use pre-production documents to plan the structure and layout of your product:

As always, adding notes and annotations really helps to improve the quality of these documents.

Eventually you'll also need to plan video, audio, and any other multimedia elements. Storyboards and simple scripts are useful.

You might also use concept sketches or visualisation diagrams if you're going to make something like a logo or visual identity, or if you do any detailed graphics work.

The Markgrid:

There are 20 marks for Task 1. Use the markgrid to help make sure you do everything needed.

Don't forget that you can use the templates below to help with the second and third parts of the markgrid.

Templates:

You are allowed to use these exam board produced templates to help come up with a test plan and to identify the assets you will use.

These are templates produced by OCR which you are allowed to use. I'm providing them here because it's easier to do that than put them somewhere else. I'm not claiming they're mine and haven't changed them other than to make sure they download properly on a non-Windows computer...
